Meet Ashley & Assorted Poppies Photo!

Assorted Poppies Photo was established by photographer Ashley Sherrow in 2017. Her business is named after her dog, Poppy, who passed away in 2019. When she started her business, she was unsure what photographic niche she wanted to pursue, so she added the "assorted" to her name. 

Ashley is an avid lover of animal rescue and welfare and uses her talents to help photograph adoptable animals for local shelters and rescues. Learn more about Ashley and her business…

Our story began on Thanksgiving Day in 2016 when a family member asked to what we attribute to Brutus' (our dog) longevity. The answer: “Love and Grandma’s Bone Broth.” We found that adding Bone Broth to his diet not only provided him with a tastier meal but gave him added nutritional benefits. Not only that, he loved the taste and adding the broth to his dry food made it more easily digestible. The challenge was finding a way to share these benefits with other dogs. Kim and Sue spent thousands of hours researching the pet market, speaking to experts in the industry, testing and tweaking recipes, designing packaging prototypes, working with ingredient suppliers and manufacturers, amongst other things, to assemble the best possible team to help bring Brutus’ Bone Broth to the market.​​​

Meet Susan & Handsome Hound Dog Treats!

Susan began baking homemade dog and cat treats in 2009 while running her pet sitting business, A Whole Lotta Love Dog Walking and Pet Service. During the 2020 pandemic, she turned her treats into a fundraiser, raising over $6,000.00 to support her team.

 In 2021, Susan shifted her focus entirely to baking, launching Handsome Hound Dog Treats to provide wholesome treats, made from human-grade ingredients to the pets of Durham, NC and beyond.

Handsome Hound Dog Treats give back. 10% of all proceeds from treat sales go towards local animal rescue organizations.

I moved to Durham, North Carolina after living in New York City for 30 years. I immediately started working for the best local city magazines. This was a perfect way for me to learn about my new home.

Living here has allowed me to volunteer at dog rescues. I donate to a rescue with every home I sell. If you have a pup, I am the perfect Realtor for you. I love spending time with my little terror... I mean my dog Buddy.

I love this area so much that I am now a Realtor at Navigate Realty. I am already so happy here because they provide all the tools I need! This helps me have an abundance of time to focus on my clients.

Meet Bri & Pawsitive Empowerment Training!

Bri has been working with animals her entire life. She started training obedience with her own pets at just 11 years old, and in 2012 she started her career as a Registered Veterinary Technician. She has since worked with her personal dogs in Obedience, Agility, Flyball, Trick Training and Nose Work; earning canine good citizens titles and trick dog titles. 

Her professional training career hit a head start in 2018 after getting her first rescue dog, Leo. A highly anxious and misunderstood mix that trusted few, but loved deeply. Through their personal journey of ups and downs, Bri realized helping pets like Leo and their family was her true calling. 

At Truss Vet, we’re reimagining the animal hospital experience and bridging a gap in care between general practices and emergency hospitals. The only way to do this was to pioneer a new category: veterinary urgent care. When you sense that something is wrong with your dog or cat, and it’s not a life-threatening emergency, come and see us. We offer same-day reservations, walk-in appointments and extended hours, open 10am to 10pm daily (closed Saturday).

Meet Dr. Bennett & Urban Tails!

I developed a love of veterinary medicine, and a special fondness for feline medicine, during my undergraduate studies. It was working as an assistant at both a veterinary practice and a cat-only animal shelter that inspired me to go to veterinary school. And in 2008, I earned my DVM degree from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. I am a big believer in Fear Free Medicine and the Human-Animal Bond and have certifications in both. I decided to open my own hospital because providing a Fear Free practice that cares deeply about our patients, clients, and community was important to me.

When not caring for your animals, you can find me running, crocheting, playing ukulele, or just hanging out with my husband, two teens, six dogs, and six cats.

William has always deeply loved animals and wanted to find a way to professionally care for our community's most cherished family members - our pets.

On the personal front, William is happily married to Brittney, and they are the proud parents of daughter Piper. They are also the proud parents of two fur babies – Dixie, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, and Gir, a Black Lab, who both add so much joy and happiness to their lives.

With over a decade of experience and certifications from Highland Canine’s School for Dog Trainers, Olivia specializes in building stronger bonds between dogs and their owners through personalized training. From on-leash and off-leash skills to behavior modification, she addresses a wide range of challenges by understanding the unique ways dogs communicate and the root causes behind their behaviors.

Beyond training, Olivia is committed to making a positive impact in her community. With a degree in Sustainability and part-time work at a nonprofit providing medically tailored meals, she brings compassion and intentionality to everything she does. Her adaptable training programs focus on meeting each dog where they are, empowering owners with the tools to create a smoother, more fulfilling life with their pets.

Founded by Maggie, a lifelong animal rescuer and former Gallery Director for a Smithsonian award-winning photographer, our studio specializes in creating stunning, timeless portraits that capture the unique personality of your pet.

Joined by Raleigh native Chris, who brings his expertise in professional photo and video content, our team ensures every session is fun and stress-free for pets and owners alike. Together with their own beloved rescues, Trudy and Mick, Maggie and Chris are dedicated to preserving memories and celebrating the love and joy pets bring to our lives.

We have high-quality, ethically-raised pet food, locally baked treats/cookies, stylish pet sweaters, and great toys and gifts. And, since many of our dogs are actually owned by the cat of the house, we keep some bribes for our feline friends in our Kitty Korner.

All Dogs Allowed is a training and enrichment center located in Cary, NC that provides group classes, day training, and private training. Our diverse team of qualified trainers works to foster an accessible, inclusive, and fun training environment – for both the dogs and the humans!

At All Dogs Allowed, trainers place a focus on continuing education, working towards training & behavior certifications, and staying up to date with the latest and greatest training techniques.

Meet Rick & Binky and Bell!

Rick Gardner specializes in creating cartoon dog and cat art to support homeless pets through Binky & Bell, a collaboration with Mark Bell. Profits from their coloring books, joke books, and artwork benefit local rescues and shelters. Inspired by the joy and unconditional love pets bring, Rick captures these emotions in his work, which has been featured in various North Carolina art exhibits. His influences include Roy Lichtenstein, Charles Schulz, and other iconic artists.

Mark Bell, drawing on his background in woodworking and international experiences, joined forces with Rick in 2013 to combine their talents and passions. Together as Binky & Bell—named after Rick’s first dog and Mark’s last name—they create whimsical art to raise funds and awareness for pet rescue organizations, sharing their love for animals and creativity with the community.

Meet Joanne & Five Freedoms Photography!

Joanne’s love for dogs and photography came together when she began volunteering at WakeGov Pets, using her entertainment background to capture stunning photos of shelter dogs to help them find loving homes. Since 2019, she has photographed over 700 dogs and raised more than $50K for rescue efforts. Combining her passion for dogs and art, Joanne creates custom, heartfelt imagery that showcases the unique bond between pets and their families, while donating 10% of client sales back to rescue organizations.

Joanne’s dedication is backed by her credentials as a HeartsSpeak Artist, a member of The Tilly Project, and a five-star-rated photographer on Google and Facebook. She’s studied under world-renowned pet photographers and participated in leading dog photography conferences. Whether through volunteer work or client sessions, Joanne’s mission is to celebrate dogs and their stories while giving back to the rescue community.

In June 2022, Megan’s life changed when she welcomed her dog, Rollo. Eager to give him a healthy, well-balanced life, she dove into research on the best food and exercises while pursuing her own health journeys. This commitment to wellness sparked the idea for Zoomies Gym.

The concept took shape when she purchased a manual treadmill to overcome the challenges of running outdoors. Recognizing that dog owners face similar obstacles—weather, reactivity, or time constraints—she created Zoomies Gym to provide dogs with consistent exercise opportunities. Zoomies’ mission is to enhance canine health and well-being while fostering a supportive community for dog owners.
